When we heard concerns from our business leaders about our growing aging population and what that will mean for our future workforce, we knew the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming could be part of the solution. Partnering with business owners and industry representatives, we have successfully launched Career Works, a program that gives Club members hands-on experience in a variety of career fields. But it’s not only learning the trade that matters, we are also teaching members soft skills that are necessary to succeed in the workforce.
One story that comes to mind is from one of our communications lessons. A week after covering conflict resolution, one of our younger teens excitedly said “Hey! I used one of those approaches when my friend and I got into an argument at school and it actually worked!” We discovered that she used two conflict resolution strategies: Attack the problem, not the person; and Communicate your feelings assertively, NOT aggressively.
With our Leading the Way Campaign for the BGCCW Foundation, we INVEST IN EDUCATION RESOURCES like Career Works. We are preparing kids for a future workforce, acquiring leadership skills, building character, and discovering possibilities based on their talents and skills.
In Phase 1 of this $15.7M campaign, we have shared our vision and invited a handful of supporters to join us as we LEAD THE WAY for kids, Club, and community. We are thrilled to announce that we have secured a top six lead gift and anticipate an announcement in January. Since September, we have secured $1.8M with nine donors. That brings our total raised toward this campaign to $4.1M.
In building the Foundation to lead, we are creating a resilient and stable future for Central Wyoming’s youth, Clubs, and the communities that we serve. Through your partnership, we can ensure these necessary services for youth are available today and into the future.
